Comfortis Chewable Tablets

Are you in a dilemma that how Comfortis is so effective or how does it work so effectively in killing fleas and protecting your pet? Through the best of our resources and our veterinarians’ panel, we have disclosed here what is Comfortis and how it works to treat fleas on dogs and cats.

What is Comfortis?

Comfortis is a makeshift flea medication that is used to treat and prevent fleas on dogs. Comfortis comes in two different formulae for both dogs and cats. Comfortis for dogs is strictly for dog use only and Comfortis for cats is for cats only.

How does it work on a pet?

Comfortis is a quick action remedy that instantly clears 98-100% fleas. Just after the administration of Comfortis tablets, the component starts killing adult fleas living on the dog just within 30 minutes. After being ingested, the formulation continues to keep dog free from fleas and thus prevents fleas from attacking dogs.

Comfortis is made of the active ingredient – Spinosad. This chemical ingredient is administered at a dosage of 13.5 mg per pound of a dog’s body weight or 22.5 mg per pound of your cat’s body weight. Spinosad is an active insecticide that triggers certain receptors on the insect. This causes involuntary muscle contractions of the nervous system and kills all adult fleas when they come in contact with Spinosad. Within 30 minutes of administration, Comfortis starts killing fleas and it is completely effective within the first 4 hours.

When given as treatment, it’s possible that fleas may appear on your pet again in a few weeks. This is due to the flea eggs laid before the treatment. Since Comfortis works for a full 30 days, eventually the new fleas die as the component will kick in. Comfortis is also an effective flea preventive. It will kill all adult fleas before they reproduce and thus stops the flea life cycle.

Comfortis comes in two formulations and in five different sizes so that you can get the perfect dosage for your dog or a cat. The chewable tablets come in flavor, which makes it easy to administer. These tablets can be given to a pet before meals or mixed in pet’s food. If mixed in food, ensure that the whole meal is taken by your pet in order not to miss the dosage. Given year around these monthly tablets will protect your dog or a cat from flea infestation for the whole year. Because of many of its credits, Comfortis is quite popular among veterinarians and pet owners.

Side Effects and It Solutions

Comfortis does not work the same for all pets. Comfortis is suitable for dogs and puppies that are at least 14 weeks of age. Similarly, for cats. It is appropriate for cats and kittens, which are minimum 14 weeks of age and that weigh at least two pounds. Both cats and dogs may show adverse reactions due to Comfortis. On the contrary, when given properly the pets do not show any possible side effects.

Sometimes, it is observed that after receiving Comfortis some dogs may vomit. If medication is vomited, you can give another dose to your pet and watch further development.

Rarely, 1% of cats or dogs show side effects of Comfortis. Some of the possible physical ill effects seen are vomiting, anorexia, erythema, hyperactivity, vocalization, decreased appetite and excessive salivation.

If you find that your pet is showing any of these reactions due to Comfortis, you can switch to other alternatives such as Frontline Plus, K9 Advantix II or Capstar.
